Following a closed-door meeting held yesterday, Wednesday, 15 October 2025, between the University Management and members of the Central Executive Council (C.E.C) of the Students’ Union, representatives of the Student Representative Assembly (S.R.A) all led by the Executive President and with the intervention of the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone “C” North Central, we wish to provide you with a brief and honest update.

The meeting was lengthy, intense, and deeply engaging. It was convened in response to the collective outcry of the student body and the firm position taken by the Students’ Union against the previously announced school fee increment.

We wish to inform you that the University Management has decided to review the school fees following yesterday’s meeting with the Students’ Union. This decision came after the Union stood its ground in rejecting the initial increment, and after sustained advocacy on behalf of the student populace.

According to the Management, the increment was based on a harmonized template proposed by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Education, intended to apply uniformly across all federal institutions. Despite this national directive, both the Students’ Union and NANS pressed forward with demands for a more considerate adjustment that reflects the realities of our students.

While a downward review has now been implemented, it does not reflect the true expectations or needs of the students, especially in light of the current economic hardship. However, based on the comparative survey conducted by the Students’ Union across other federal institutions, it sadly appears that this adjustment aligns with what is fast becoming the national reality. Though it falls short of what we hoped for, it is the outcome we are now faced with. The reviewed fees are expected to be reflected on the payment portal in the coming days.

In the spirit of constructive engagement, we also echo the advice from NANS leadership: students who are eligible and have not yet applied for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) are encouraged to take advantage of the scheme. While it does not solve the broader issue, it may offer temporary relief for some students.
