JAMB's Marking Scheme - Negative Marking Issue Clarified

For so many years, even during my time, there has been controversies as to how JAMB marks their exams and if JAMB negative marking - a strategy to reduce guessing by subtracting marks for any question failed - was used.

After thorough investigation on this issues, The Myschool Team has been able to get the final resolution.

The Exam, UTME, will be a 3.5 hrs (three and half hours) paper of multiple choice questions in Use of English and 3 other subjects specified by the candidate. Usually, candidates are given the Use of English paper to begin with after which the other 3 papers are distributed after some minutes (30-45min). Myschool has gathered that there will be 100 Questions for Use of English - equating to 100 marks. The other 3 subjects will carry 50 questions each - equating to 100 Marks each. Candidates will therefore be graded to a total of 400 marks.

ON THE ISSUES OF JAMB NEGATIVE MARKING:
Negative marking in JAMB - UTME DOES NOT EXIST. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like Negative marking. This has also been confirmed by a JAMB Staff.

Since there is nothing like negative marking, it is advised that you shade an answer for all questions.
First answer the questions you are very sure of and come back later to answer the rest. Why? Because if at the end of the exam you end up not attempting some very simple questions as easy as "1 + 1 = 2" at the bottom of your paper, you will have yourself to blame. JAMB, most times, ask very simple questions and keep them at the bottom of the paper.

Be Confident! Remember to shade an answer for every question. You might just be lucky to get all the ones you guessed.

Yeah, about "Guessing", you should try to guess with logic and elimination, just like how it's done in "Who wants to be a millionaire". With that, you'll come out with a million smiles after the exam.
