Explanation

(a) ldentification of Specimens:

  • A - Nut and bolt;
  • B - Knapsack sprayer;
  • C - ldentification tag.

(b) Functions of specimens:

A is used in tightening, fastening, fixing or holding joints together.

B is used for spraying or applying fungicides, insecticides.

  • is used for spraying liquid fertilizers.
  • is used for spraying herbicides.

C is used for identification of animals.

(c) Ways of maintaining specimen A:

  • Grease to avoid rusting.
  • Straighten bent bolt or nut.  
  • Rethreading the worn-out threads.
  • Store always in cool, dry place.

Ways of maintaining specimen B

  • Wash and clean the tank, the filters and nozzles with water after use.
  • Check the sprayer for leakage and any leakage should be blocked.
  • Replace damage or worn-out parts, e.g., filters and nozzles.
  • Remove the nozzles, clean and store seperately.
  • Store the sprayer under cover.
  • Free the nozzles of all blockages or clogs.
  • Turn the container upside down after washing to drain properly.

(d) Other implements that perform the same function as specimen B are:

  • Motorized sprayer
  • Boom sprayer
  • Electrotyne sprayer
  • Hand sprayer

(e) Safety precautions to be observed when using specimen B include:

  • Wear protective clothing and a nose mask.
  • Avoid eating. drinking or smoking.
  • Wash/bath well after spraying.
  • Do not blow a blocked nozzle with the mouth.
  • Ensure that spraying is not against the wind.
  • Avoid walking on freshly sprayed plots.
  • Follow carefully instructions on the use of chemical to be sprayed
