let the no of students taking chemistry and government be x
the no of students taking chemistry only is 8-x
the no of students taking government only is 25 - (12+x)= 13 - x
similarly the no of students taking economics only is 19-12=7
hence 7+12+13-x+x+8-x = 37
40-x = 37
x = 40-37
x = 3
no of students taking both chemistry and government = 3
