Tears flowed freely yesterday at the Atrium, Stadium Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as family and friends remember four University of Port Harcourt students who were murdered by a mob last year.

The event was the first memorial service and unveiling of a foundation in commemoration of the gruesome murder of the victims, Ugonna Obuzor, Lloyd Toku Mike, Tekenah Friday Elkanah, which sad incident occurred on October 5, 2013, in Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

The tears were provoked, especially when the mother of Tekenah Elkanah, was giving her testimonies about the death of the students, who incidentally were first sons of their parents.

One of the remarkable things at the event was the launch of a Foundation known as The Four Friends Dreams Alive Foundation, with the former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili, chairing the Board of Trustees. The Rivers State has assured the affected families that justice would be done.Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, gave the assurance while addressing people at the event.

She said it would seem that adjudication of justice had been slow, but assured that prosecution would not be stopped. “We have gathered together to mourn the four students murdered at Aluu a year ago. As a mother, I felt it most that, if it were my son, my only son, how will I feel?

“I want to reassure the parents of the commitment of Rivers State Government in supporting this occasion. We don’t know who it is going to be again. We will fight along with the parents.”
