The Federal University Lokoja, FUL, has recorded another major milestone following the approval of 14 new undergraduate academic programmes by the National Universities Commission, NUC.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated June 16, 2026 and signed on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission by the Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei.

The Commission informed the University that following a resource verification exercise conducted by a panel of experts, it had considered and approved the establishment of the programmes to run in full-time mode at the University's main campus with effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The newly approved programmes are:

1. B.Sc. Social Work

2. B.Sc. Criminology and Security Studies

3. B.Sc. Cyber Security

4. B.Sc. Software Engineering

5. B.Sc. Artificial Intelligence

6. B.Sc. Data Science

7. B.Sc. Psychology

8. B.Sc. Procurement Management

9. B.Sc. Entrepreneurship Studies

10. B.Sc. Actuarial Science

11. B.Sc. Film and Multimedia Studies

12. B.Sc. Broadcasting Journalism

13. B.Sc. Fisheries and Aquaculture, and

14. B.Sc. Agricultural Economics.

The approval means that prospective candidates can apply for the newly approved programmes in the ongoing 2026/2027 admission exercise once they are uploaded on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). 

Qualified and interested applicants who wish to study any of the newly approved courses will also have the opportunity to effect a change of programme through the appropriate admission processes and apply for consideration into the programmes.

Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, described the approval as a significant affirmation of the University's steady progress in academic expansion, innovation and institutional growth.

Professor Ibileye noted that the newly approved programmes align with the University's strategic vision of producing graduates equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to address contemporary challenges and contribute meaningfully to national development. 

He emphasized that the approval is particularly significant as it strengthens the University's capacity to deliver training in emerging and technology driven fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cyber Security and Software Engineering, which are increasingly shaping the future of work and global competitiveness.
