In a bid to create and develop an enduring culture of honesty, integrity and positive morale, the Vice Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele on Wednesday January 13, 2021 rewarded Mr Victor Ugochukwu Ami, a first year student in the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences with a four years scholarship, refund of school fees already paid, most virtuous student in integrity and honesty award for 2019/2020 academic session, a letter of commendation, two hundred thousand naira cash award and other benefits for returning a lost phone belonging to Dr Patience Spencer, a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Natural and Applied Science and Director, Ideas, Creativity and Innovations.

Professor Ndimele noted that the attitude exhibited by the student is worthy of emulation especially in an environment where dishonesty, complicity, cultism, theft and other social vices are common attitudes that pervade the corridors and mindsets of youths.

He urged other students to key into attitudes that will make their parents and the university proud and encouraged Victor Ugochukwu Ami to keep up the good attitude.

The Registrar, Mrs Hope Kue-Ikoro while presenting the awards commended Mr Victor Ugochukwu Ami for exhibiting high moral standard and expressed optimism that the awards would afford him the opportunity to continue to sustain the high level of integrity and ethical value.

Dean, Student Affairs Dr Ugochukwu Agi enjoined parents to be prayerful and meticulous in the choice of names for their children as names sometimes play dominant roles in the lives of children. He stressed that the name given to the celebrant by his parents is a reflection of the kind of personality that he is as honest people do not hide their good deeds.

Dr Agi encouraged the student to continue to do the right thing even when no one sees him, stating that God who sees all things will reward him.

Similarly, the Dean, Faculty of Social Science, Professor Good Wilson thanked Victor Ugochukwu Ami for the good deed and for bringing honour to the Department. He also lauded the Vice Chancellor for changing the narrative of the Department of Political Science by removing the dirt previously surrounding the Department, adding that they have never had it so good.

Also speaking, the Head, Department of Political Science, Professor Bennett Ozioma Orluwene appreciated the Vice Chancellor for the honour done to the student and promised that the Department will nurture, support and encourage him to remain in the right path. He, on a personal note gave ten thousand naira cash gift to the celebrant.

The mother of the student, Mrs Patience Ami overjoyed with the awards accorded her son for his forthrightness thanked the university management and prayed God to bless them all. She also thanked Dr Patience Spencer for bringing her son to the limelight.

The Pastor of the student Reverend Dr Emmanuel Israel of the Assemblies of God Church thanked the Vice Chancellor for celebrating honesty, righteousness, good character and prayed God to uplift him wherever he goes. He said no legacy is as rich as honesty and promised to constantly pray for the student to sustain the good character.

Mr Blesyn Wikina, a postgraduate student of the university and a one time Chief Press Secretary to a former Governor in the State after narrating how the phone was found and returned by the student emphasized that honesty is a virtue that is found in few people and commended the Vice Chancellor for encouraging, appreciating and celebrating Mr Victor Ugochukwu Ami.

The celebrant Mr Victor Ugochukwu Ami expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and his Management team for everything that they have done for him.

The event featured presentation of an award of excellence to the Vice Chancellor Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele by the Source Nigeria in recognition of his promotion of good moral behaviour among students and staff, academic excellence, development of the University through sociocultural activities, standard learning environment and elimination of cult activities and other social vices on campus. The award was presented to the Vice Chancellor by Dr Patience Spencer.
