Professor Lawanson Agbani Briggs, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, in Rivers state, has died at the age of 62.

Briggs who served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor between 2010 to 2014 also served as the Dean of Postgraduate School in the institution.

His demise was confirmed by his son, Mr. Oyibo Briggs in a letter to the university, who said his late father died on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

The university has reacted to his passing in a statement signed by the public relations officer of the institution Ngozi Okiridu. It says that the late professor until his death was a lecturer in the Department of Human Kinetics, Health and Safety Education, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, adding that the deceased left behind children, grandchildren, and other relatives.
