Concede To ASUU’s Demands, Prelate Charges FG

As eminent Nigerians continue to wade into the ongoing crisis between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the newly elected Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Samuel Chukwuemeka Kanu Uche, has called on the federal government to do everything possible to generate funds and satisfy ASUU’s demands so they can call off the lingering strike and go back to the classroom.

Urging the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration to have the moral courage to tackle the lingering disagreement with ASUU, the cleric also pleaded with the government to invest extensively in education as this is the only way to securing a promising future for Nigeria.

On the call for the much-debated national conference, the cleric affirmed the need for Nigerians to discuss the essence of our co-existence but urged that the dialogue should be all encompassing.

“The national conference should be all encompassing and all embracing. Nigerians should not be pessimistic that this conference will divide Nigeria. Rather, they should think and talk positively because I believe the conference will help us have a more buoyant, vibrant and stable country, so I support it completely,” said Uche.
