It was jubilation galore at the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, when the National Universities Commission accredited all the 14 programmes on offer at the institution.

This was contained in a statement signed by Director, Public Affairs, Mr. Tunde Olofintila, after the NUC released the result of the accreditation in which ABUAD was awarded 85 per cent score, having obtained full accreditation for 12 of the 14 programmes it presented to the NUC’s exercise.

The other two programmes were awarded interim accreditation.

According to him, the feat is significant because the institution only started academic activities on January 4, 2010.

Responding to the NUC accreditation, the Founder and Chancellor of ABUAD, Chief Afe Babalola,(SAN) said, “Today, many universities around run most of their programmes with interim accreditation. For us to have full accreditation for 12 out of the 14 programmes presented for accreditation, with two interim accreditation, speaks volumes of the efforts of the university at truly reforming education.”

He expressed joy at the accomplishment, noting that when accreditation is denied in some universities, their students usually take to the streets, rioting.

In the letter dated June 17, 2013 to Babalola, the NUC conveyed full accreditation for Administration, Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, all in the College of Administration while Anatomy and Physiology were given full accreditation in the College of Basic Medical Sciences.

The NUC also gave the ABUAD’s Law programme full accreditation while Biochemistry, Human Biology and Microbiology got full accreditation in the college of Sciences.

In College of Social Sciences, degree programmes in Economics, Media and Communication Studies and Tourism and Events Management got full accreditation.

However, Nutrition and Dietetics and Computer Science got interim accreditation.

The statement noted that the news would buoy and fast-track Babalola’s dream and vision to reform functional education in the country by providing and leading others in quality education, service, industry and character as well as discipline.

“Also, his vision of establishing a world-class education centre of excellence in academics, characters, sport and vocational development, has crystallized into reality, particularly with the university graduating its first set of students later this month,” the statement added.
