Abstract

The study focuses on the role of the Ministry of Petroleum resources in the Management of Oil regulations in Nigeria. The thrust of the study however, is to find out whether the sole responsibility of the Ministry of Petroleum leads to the violation of oil production laws. Specifically, the study interrogates the Ministry of petroleum Resources sole responsibility of managing oil revenue if it undermines the effective regulations of oil Production safety as well as the domination of government shares in gas Joint Ventures operations if it accounts for weak enforcement of anti-gas flare laws in Nigeria between 2011-2014. The study adopted the Marxist Structuralist theory of the state. The study adopted the qualitative descriptive method of data analysis and used documentary method of data collection. The study adopted the ex-post facto research design.The findings shared that the sole responsibility of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources in the management of oil regulations account for weak enforcement of regulations in Nigeria and leads to some health and environmental risk. The study maintains that the decentralization of the responsibility of management of oil regulations will promote effective oil regulations in Nigeria.
