Abstract:
The study was based on the assessment of safety measures in the design and building of medical imaging Diagnostic Centers in Port Harcourt. The study employed the use of a case-study approach and Rehoboath Diagnostic Center in Port Harcourt Metropolis which comprises both Port Harcourt City Local Government Area. A total of eighty (80) imaging partitioners were involved in the study in Rehoboath Diagnostic Ceneter Port Harcourt, in Rivers State. Seventy, 70(73.3%) of the workers agree to the safety measures while 5(13.3%) are not aware and 5(13.3%) disagreed. 60.0% of are male, while 40.0% were female. Recommendation, the design and building of medical imaging facilities should be strictly supervised by the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to ensure strict adherence to safety guidelines Imaging practitioners in general should be periodically sensitized on their safety needs and safety measures to be employed to reduce occupational exposure to radiation and enhance occupational health and safety. There should be periodic review and assessment of imaging practitioners to ensure that no individual is exposed to radiation risks that are judged to be unacceptable.
