Introduction:

Abstract

This research work was carried out to evaluate the different methods of corrosion prevention, control and monitoring. In the course of the research many scholarly articles on the subject matter were reviewed from which the researcher got lot information concerning the topic at hand. Thus making the research work a reliable source of information as far as facts about corrosion is concerned.

To ensure this work satisfies the quality expected of it, an experiment was carried out by the researcher using nails subjected to six different environments to check the effect of the environments on corrosion of the nails.

Two sets of nails were used; normal nail and concrete nail. Six of each type coated while the other not coated.

The research was carried out in a chemical with necessary tools and equipments required for the experiment.

The environments used are acidic solution, alkaline solution, salt solution, boiled water, air medium and lubricating oil medium, which served as a control medium.

After the experiment, it was observed from the graphs of the weight of metal against time plotted, that acidic environment gave rise to corrosion at a faster rate than other environments. It was also observed that normal nails gave rise to corrosion at a faster rate than concrete nail.

Coating of metals surface was also noticed to be one of the methods of preventing the high rate of corrosion of metals even though it does not stop corrosion.

In conclusion the researcher understood that the subject matter was treated in order to drastically reduce and better manage the menace corrosion but not to stop it entirely as it may not be possible.

Introduction

The word “Train” comes from the old French word trainer, also from the Latin word trahere which simply means “pull or draw”. It is a form of rail transport consisting of series of vehicles (coaches) propelled along a fixed rail track to transport goods or passengers. It can also be defined as a private or public conveyance system that travels along fixed routes and takes up set down passengers and their luggage at fixed points.

A railway station also referred to as a train station (in Common wealth English) or a rail road station (in US English) and often shortened to just “station”, is a railway facility where trains regularly stop to load and unload passengers and freight. It generally consists of a platform next to the tract and a station building (depot) providing related services such as ticket sales and waiting room, passengers convenience etc

The smallest station are most often referred to as “stops” or in some parts of the world as “halts” (flag stops). Connections may be available to intersecting rail lines or other transport modes such as buses, trains, trucks or other rapid transit systems to facilitate the movement of passengers and their freight into the station or leaving the station.
