Abstract:
Modern African drama is a relatively new idea that emerged as a result of colonialism within the past century. One of the prominent features of this new type of drama is hybridization which was a fusion of Western cultures and African elements. This research work, therefore, discusses the concept of hybridization in Modern African Drama, using Wole Soyinka’s Death and the King’s Horseman, The Strong Breed and Sam Ukala’s Iredi War as reliable study cases. Chapter one gives a general background and introduction to the research. Chapter two gives a literature review while chapter three examines the concept of hybridization in Death and the King’s Horseman, The Strong Breed and Iredi War. Chapter four explains some of the dramatic techniques in these play texts and chapter five concludes the research by highlighting its contribution to literary knowledge.
