Abstract:
This project investigates the role of radio on political mobilization of rural dwellers. A study of listeners of radio in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State. The study adopts a descriptive survey method. The research instrument for data collection was questionnaire. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources. A total of 100 questionnaires were distributed to the respondents to gathered adequate information. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and simple percentage. Findings revealed that most of the respondents were of the view that they were exposed to political programmes on radio.

Also, respondents are of the opinion that they listening to radio very well, Ogun State radio stations set the agenda for what the community should think and talk about on the issues of political programmes, Ogun State radio stations set a stage for people to engage in discussions on an issue of teenage pregnancies, Ogun State radio stations set a stage for people to engage in discussions on an issue of teenage pregnancies. The result therefore posits that rural residents of Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun state were exposed to political programmes through radio. Moreover, findings also revealed that radio stations channel through which residents of Ijebu North Local Government obtain political information were listening to radio, news on radio, Political voices programme on radio, Political forum programme on radio etc. The study among others recommends that the government should put up more and effective developmental programmes on radio ranging from educational programmes to enlightenment programmes and instructional programmes to foster development in rural areas and its dwellers. Government should mobilize the rural dwellers to practices or works towards they have learnt through the broadcast programs.
