Introduction

INTRODUCTION

The Student industrial working experience scheme is a mandatory four month programme assigned by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to the academic process of every polytechnic student in Nigeria to gather knowledge and working experience in specific or related field of study.

This report covers my experience during the four months period I spent in the Cross River State Bureau of Statistics, a government parastatal in Cross River State which serve as the Statistical nerve of the state government, and a centre for data production, collection, collation, analysis presentation as well as storage.

There were many options to choose from, but my desire to get the best out of SIWES lead me into choosing to serve in the Bureau as I was fascinated with learning the ropes on data production, data publication as well as various tools of analysis. It felt like a process of visualising or experiencing real-life situations of what has been taught in class.

Over the four months spent, I served at my unit with little exposure to other units as well as how the Bureau was being run as well as the command chain.
