Abstract:
Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern characterized by alternating periods of fasting and eating. Intermittent fasting has gained significant attention due to its potential health benefit including weight management, improved metabolic health and inflammation. Hematological parameters which include components of WBCs, RBCs parameters. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of intermittent fasting on the liver function enzymes of human. A population of 60 healthy subjects within the age 18-30 years was used for this experiment and they were divided into two phases; the fasting phase (test phase) and non-fasting phase (control phase). A properly structured questionnaire was administered to every participant to obtain basic health, demographic details and lifestyle eating patterns. 5mls of blood samples were collected and 4.5ml of blood was dispensed into 0.5ml of EDTA anticoagulated container in a ratio of 1:9 for hematological estimation in the laboratory using the automated three parts ERMA Hematology Auto analyses PCE-210N. All analysis was carried out in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH). The results showed no significant difference in alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, conjugated bilirubin and total bilirubin during intermittent fasting and random intake. But there was significant decrease in glucose level during intermittent fasting and random intake (p ≤ 0.05). These results suggest that intermittent fasting does not adversely affect these specific liver function enzymes and markers. However, there was a significant decrease in glucose levels among participants who practiced intermittent fasting, indicating a positive impact on blood glucose regulation.

Introduction:
Intermittent fasting is a dietary approach that involves cycling between periods of fasting and eating. There are various intermittent fasting protocols, but they all involve restricting food intake for specific periods of time. This practice has gained significant attention due to its potential effects on weight management, metabolic health, and longevity.
