Abstract:
Human capital development is essential for the growth and development of any organization or nation. Human capital is perhaps the most dynamic of all resources of any organization. Over the years, the financial sector had been plagued with scarcity of trained bankers and financial experts, which has led to the employment of half fit experts who need further training to make them suitable for the banking jobs I is the light of this paper examined the effectiveness of Human Capital Development Program’s effectiveness of Human Capital Development Programs of the Guarantee Trust Bank Plc. The study utilized both the primary and secondary data sources and it utilized questionnaire and in-depth interview as instrument and for secondary data. The organization Human Capital Development Chart, hand book and training records. The findings revealed that the human capital programs of Guarantee Trust Bank Plc, have improved the skills, attitude and performance of the staff of the bank which invariably has also discovered the need to retain them after the training and development exercise. This will reduce employee turnover or attraction, which is visible in the bank

Introduction:
The banking sub-sector of the financial sector of any nation can be described as the driving engine of the nation’s economy to the extent that if the banking industry fails, the economy fails, and vice versa. Thus, the performance of banks goes a long way in determining the intermediation process of the economy (Ojo, 1994) (cited in Olalere and Adenugba, 2013). This performance can be measured in terms of earnings per share, profitability index, returns on equity (ROE), etc. The relevance of the banks‟ performance in the economic status of a nation provides the reason why the Nigerian government has always placed a great emphasis on improving the effectiveness of this industry over the years. The integration of the world economies into a global village in the face of ever-increasing ICT coupled with the challenges posed by the depressed economy and the increased competition from other nations‟ banks necessitated the need for a more productive human capital.
