Introduction:

Abstract

Management gets involved in manpower training and development as one of its various activities, it is the work of the organization to develop its staff so that they can work efficiently. This will keep increasing the organization’s productivity.

Sincere in the three M(S) (men, money and material) needed in an organization, man happens to be part of it, human resources has it’s objectives as a result of this, they need to train and develop their employees to perform very well. In an organization, when staffs are recruited, they have to be trained like giving the orientations, seminar, educating them etc. Unless, they will be latent, untapped and potential. If the employees are not skillful on their job, they cannot be productive.

The main objective of this study is to appraise the effects of human resources training and development on workers productivity in power holding Company of Nigeria, Enugu District. In carrying out this research, the researcher used questionnaire. Also interviews were conducted on some staff members of power holding company, all these provides for the primary data. The researcher used Yaro Yamane formular to carry out its research, thus the data and information obtained were also analyzed using tabular representation.

From the research questions like “What categories of staff are considered for training and development programme? And to what extent has expenditure of resources on training and development yield effective returns. The researcher was able to find out that the management considers all staff for training and development. Though at a time more attention could be paid to some staff in some level. Also that money invested on training and development increase workers productivity.

Further, from the research findings, he was able to make the following recommendation, that in service training should be provided to employees of power holding company and that employees be selected for training through performance evaluation results.

In conclusion, from the findings of the research study, I can conveniently say that training and development is very necessary and vital since it increased workers productivity.
