Abstract:
The study was conducted to determine the effect of Breed, Sex and Age on serum parameters in Nigerian goats. Blood samples were collected from a total of 118 goats across different breed, sex and age. Eighty- four (84) from Sahel goat, eleven (11) from Red Sokoto and twenty-four (24) from West African Dwarf goat. The result obtained from the analysis of serum parameters showed that Breed had significant effect (P<0.05) on Glucose(mg/dl), Albumin (g/l), urea (mg/dl), Creatinine(mg/dl) with values of 42.830±2.772, 37.991±1.402, 40.141±2.203, 1.396±9.967 respectively, it also revealed that Sex had significant effect (P<0.05) on Alkaline phosphatase with value of 243.271±11.430, while age and interaction between breed, sex and age had no significant effect on serum parameters. Therefore, more study is needed especially on effect of age and their interaction on serum parameters using larger sampling size.
