The aim of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) 2026 syllabus in Yorùbá is to prepare the candidates for the Board’s examination. It is designed to test their achievement of the course objectives, which are to:

1. stimulate and sustain their interest in Yorùbá language, literature and culture

2. acquire basic knowledge and skill in Yorùbá language, literature and material and non-material aspects of culture.

STRUCTURE OF THE EXAMINATION

The test will be of an objective type, candidates will answer forty (40) multiple-choice questions covering all aspects of the syllabus:

1. LANGUAGE:

(a) Comprehension

(1 prose and 1 verse) 08 items

(b) Essay writing 01 item

(c) Sound system 04 items

(d) Grammar 05 items

(e) Current orthography 02 items

(f) Translation 01 item

2.LITERATURE:

(iv) demonstrate knowledge of the basic principles underlying the relationship between sounds.
