Drug withdrawal refers to the physical and psychological symptoms that occur when a person who has developed
dependence on a drug stops taking it or reduces the dose suddenly. Common withdrawal symptoms include intense
cravings for the drug, sweating, shaking or tremors, anxiety, irritability, insomnia, nausea, and in severe cases, seizures.
These symptoms occur because the body has adapted to the presence of the drug, and its sudden absence disrupts the
body's normal balance (homeostasis).
