I would also go for metronomy
This is because, according to the poem "wheel" is not used representing a part of a car i.e synecdoche but it can refer to service, work. Hence, wheel is not regarded as synecdoche but something close to something i.e service. Many years on wheels, not only can it represents driving but can also represent service.
