Correct Answer: Option C
Explanation

In the extract from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Speaker X and Speaker Y are Demetrius and Helena respectively.

In the play, Demetrius and Helena are in the woods, and Lysander is speaking to Helena. He is warning her about the dangers of trusting someone who does not love her (as he is in love with Hermia, who is in love with Lysander), and the dangers of being in the woods at night.

Helena, on the other hand, is speaking to Demetrius. In her reply, she tries to defend the situation by arguing that it is not truly night when she sees his face, implying that everything seems better when she is with him, even in the dark woods. She is in love with Demetrius.

While Demetrius is in the woods in search of Hermia, who has eloped with Lysander, Helena is there to go after Demetrius as she is deeply in love with him This suggests that they are in the woods for different reasons.
