Prospero is warning Ferdinand not to break his vow of chastity before marriage to Miranda. He cautions him that even strong promises can be easily destroyed by passion (“the fire i’ the blood”).
This protective, advisory tone fits Prospero perfectly because he is Miranda’s father, he is testing Ferdinand’s sincerity and controls the events of the play.
