Subject Combination / JAMB UTME Requirements


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Sociology under the Faculty of Social & Management Sciences in the above Universities include;

Three (3) Social Science or Arts subjects.

(1) UI - The three (3) subjects to be chosen from Arts, Science or Social Science subjects

(2) UNIPORT and AAU accept Mathematics as UTME subjects.

(3) AAUA requires Government and accepts Mathematics.

(4) KSU accepts English language. Mathematics and two (2) others from Government or History, Economics, Geography, Commerce and Agricultural Science

(5) FED-OYEEKITI, ABU and ABUAD require Government/History plus two other subjects

(6) BSU accepts any three subjects from Arts or S/Sciences

(7) WESTERN-DEL requires three Social Science or Arts subject.

(8) LASU requires Government/History, Economics/Commerce and any other Social Science subject.

(9) DELSU requires two Social science subjects and any other subject.

(10) ABUAD for Intelligence and Security Studies requires History/Government, Geography plus one Arts or Social Science subject.

(11) KWASU requires Mathematics, Government and any other Arts or Social Science subject.

(12) UNILAGOS requires three Social science subjects or Arts subjects. It accepts Mathematics as UTME subjects.

(13) FED-LAFIA requires Government and any two of Economics, Commerce, History, Geography, Literature in English or CRK/IRS.

(14) BAYERO requires Government or History plus two other Social Science.

(15) UNIABUJA – As in Political Science.

(16) FED-DUTSINMA requires Government or History plus two (2) other Social Science/Art subjects.

(17) FED-GASHUA accepts Three Social Science or Arts Subjects.

(18) FED-OYE EKITI requires Government and Any two (2) subjects from Arts or Social Science.

(19) UMYUK requires Government or History or Civic Education and any other two (2) Arts or Social Science subjects.

(20) UNILORIN requires any two (2) of the following, Government, Economics, Geography or Commerce.

(21) IAUED requires English language, Government, Economics, Religious Studies, or any other arts subjects.

(22) EKSU requires three (3) Social Science or Arts subjects.

(23) FED-WUKARI requires English Language and any three of Arts or Social Science subject.

(24) FED-LOKOJA requires History/Government and any other two (2) subjects from the Arts and Social Sciences.

(25) ABU requires Use Of English, Government/History And Two Other From Economics, Geography, CRK/IRK, Commerce And Civic Education.

(27) PHC requires Any three (3) subjects from Economics, Commerce, Mathematics, Government/History, Geography, CRK/IRK.

(28) LANDMARK requires Government or History ,one social science/Art subject and any other subject.

(29) RSUST requires English Language, Literature in English, Government and any Social Science Subjects.

(30) SSU requires Any three (3) Arts/Social Science Subjects.

(31) FED-DUSTINMA requires English Language, Government or History plus two other Social Sciences/Arts subjects

O'Level Requirements


The O'level subject combination and requirements needed to study Sociology;

You require;

Five (5) SSC credit passes in Government or History, English Language and three (3) other subjects. A pass in Mathematics is required


SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(1) LASU requires credit passes in Mathematics, English Language and three other subjects from Economics, Government, Commerce, Geography, CRS, IRS, Accounts, Yoruba or a Science subject.

(2) UNIILORIN requires at least 2 Social Science subjects and a pass in Mathematics.

(3) AAU, UNIBEN, AAUA and DELSU require credits in Mathematics

(4) UNILORIN accepts Five ‘O’ level credit passes from Arts, Science or Social Science Subjects

(5) ABSU and UNICAL accept a pass in Mathematics.

(6) UI accepts 5 'O' level credits passes from Arts, Science or Social /Science.

(7) FED-LAFIA requires credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Government and any two of Economics, Commerce, History, IRS or CRK.

(8) DELSU and BOWEN require five SSCE credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, and any two social science subjects plus any other subject.

(9) UNILAG requires English Language, Mathematics plus two Social Science subjects and one Arts subject.

(10) REDEEMER'S requires five 'O level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics and three additional subjects in Social; Sciences or Arts

(11) AAUA requires credit in English Language, Mathematics and any one of Geography/ History, Government and any two other subjects.

(12) ABU requires five 'O' level credit passes in English Language, Government or History, Economics, Geography, CRK/IRK and at last a pass in Mathematics.

(13) KASU requires a credit in Mathematics.

(14) ABSU same as in Political Science.

(15) GO same as in Political Science and International Relations.

(16) PAUL requires five SSCE credit passes in not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics and three Arts/Social Science subjects.

(17) BSU requires five SSCE credit passes from any Social Science or Arts subjects

(18) WESTERN-DEL same as in Political Science and Public Administration

(19) JABU requires at least a pass in Mathematics

(20) NDU requires five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Government or History and three other subjects in not more than two.

(21) KWASU requires credit passes in English, Mathematics, Government and any two other social sciences.

(22) ABUAD requires credit passes in English language, History/Government and any other two Arts or Social Science subjects. At least a pass in Mathematics is required.

(23) GO requires five SSCE credit passes to include English, Mathematics, History or Government or Economics and two Science, Art or Social Science subjects.

(34) UMYUK requires Five credit passes at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two from Commerce, Government Geography, Accounting and Book Keeping in not more than two sittings.

(25) FED-OYEEKITI requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Government/History Mathematics, and two (2) other Social Sciences or Arts subjects.

(26) KSU requires credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Economics/Geography/Government and any two other relevant subjects.

(27) UNIPORT requires Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language and four (4) other subjects from Economics, Commerce, Mathematics, Government/History, Geography, CRK/IRK. NOTE a Pass in Mathematics is compulsory, if Mathematics is not inclusive in the five credits

(28) FED-DUTSINMA requires Five ‘O’ level Credits in Government or History/Civic Education, English Language, Mathematics and any two other subjects.

(29) EUI – As in Political Science.

(30) DELSU requires five credit passes at SSC 'O’Level or its equivalent, which must include English Language, Mathematics, three (3) other subjects, two (2) of Social Science or Art subjects.

(31) FED-GASHUA - As in Political Science.

(32) IAUED requires English language, Mathematics, any three (3) of the following: Government, Economics, Geography, Commerce, Civic Education, History, Literature in English, Christian Religious Studies, Islamic Studies, Business Studies, Marketing, Bookkeeping, Data processing, Agricultural Science, Music, Health Education, French, Animal husbandry and any of the science subjects.

(33) EKSU requires five (5) ‘O' Level Credit pass in English Language, Mathematics and any other two Social Science subjects in two sitting, chosen from Government, Commerce, Economics, Civic Education and Geography.

(34) FED-WUKARI requires Five (5) Credits at not more than two sitting including English Language, Mathematics, and any three of Government/History/Civic Education/Economics/Geography/Commerce and any Arts or Social Subject obtained from Senior School Certificate (SSCE), National Examination Council (NECO) National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) or its equivalent.

(35) FED-LOKOJA requires Five (5) SSC credit passes to include History/Government, English Language and any other three from Arts or Social Sciences. A pass in Mathematics is required.

(36) COAL-CITY requires a credit pass in English language in SSCE or its equivalent. A credit in any of the following subject such as Agricultural Science, Biology, Fishery, Chemistry and Physics would be accepted in case of any deficiency in Mathematics

(37) LANDMARK accepts Five (5) SSC credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Economics,or Government or History , any other subject and at least a pass in a science subject or a credit level pass in an Art/Social science subject.

(38) RSUST accepts Five (5) WASC/SSCE/ GCE/NECO ‘O’ Level Credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and any three (3) Social Science Subjects.

(39) SOSU accepts Five (5) SSC credit passes to include English Language and, Mathematics and two Social Science subjects and one other Art or Social Science subject, or at least one social science subject plus any other two arts or social science subjects at not more than two sittings.

Direct Entry Requirements


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Sociology, if you don't intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) 'A' Level passes including Government or History.

(1) UNIPORT - accepts Two (2) Advanced level passes in GCE or HSC or JUPEB or IJMB in arts subjects in addition to UTME entry requirements

(2) UI accepts 2 ‘A’ level passes from Arts, Science or Social Science.

(3) UNILAG accepts;
(a) Very good passes in three JUPEB/A-LEVEL subjects: Any three (3) of Economics, Government, Geography, History and CRS/IRS
(b) Cambridge A/Level pass in Government
(c) Candidates must satisfy O/Level requirement.

(4) UDU accepts National Diploma in Mass Communication with credit level pass and NCE (Social Studies).

(5) UNIBEN accepts in Social Development and Administration

(6) DELSU accepts two A’ level passes to include a Social Science subject.

(7) LASU accepts 'A' passes in two relevant.

(8) AAUA accepts ND upper credit in relevant fields. Requires 'A' level passes in Government and one Social Science subject.

(9) IGBINEDION - As for Political Science and Public Administration.

(10) BOWEN accepts two 'A' level passes to include Economics and any one of Government, Geography and History

(11) TASJ requires two of Economics, Government/Pol. Science, Religious Studies, Geography and Social Studies.

(12) UNIJOS accepts two (2) 'A' level passes in any of the Social Sciences subjects for IJMB (candidates must have met 'O' level entry requirements).

(13) ABU accepts two 'A' level/IJMB which must include Sociology or Government/ History and any other subject.

(14) AAU accepts two 'A' level passes from Mathematics, Economics, Government and Geography.

(15) WESTERN-DEL – Same as in Political Science and Public Administration.

(16) KWASU accepts IJMB and two A' levels papers in relevant subjects.

(17) GO accepts BSc, BA or HND in any discipline.

(18) UMYUK accepts candidates with a minimum of 9 points in IJMB/HSC/GCE ‘A’ Level in Sociology and any other two (2) Social Science subjects. NCE in Social Studies. Candidates with a minimum of lower credit pass in National Diploma in relevant subject from recognized institution may also be admitted

(19) UNIABUJA – As in Political Science.

(20) ABUAD requires 'A' Level passes or equivalents and any other two (2) subjects to include Government/History and Economics.

(21) FED-DUTSINMA accepts Two ‘A’ level passes in History, Geography, Literature, Religious Knowledge, Social Studies, Sociology, Political Science or Economics. (xxii) EUI - As in Political Science.

(22) FED-GASHUA accepts OND/ND (Upper Credit), HND (Lower Credit) and NCE Merit and above into 200 Level. (xxiv) FED-OYE EKITI requires two (2) ‘A’ Level passes including Government or History and at least 3.0 points.

(23) UNILORIN requires five (5) ‘O’ Level subjects which must include Credit in English Language, Mathematics and any two of the following: Government, Economics, Geography or Commerce and any subject for the fifth credit, in addition to any two (2) “Advance Level” subjects in Social Sciences.

(24) IAUED accepts five ‘O’ Level Credits including English Language and Mathematics At least merit pass or lower credit in NCE/OND

(25) FED-WUKARI - Direct Entry candidates must obtain two A/L passes at GCE A/L, IJMB Or Advanced NABTEB or at Least a credit at ND/HND in Social Works, Public Administration, Criminology, or Security Studies. Candidates must also satisfy the O/L requirement for admission.

(26) FED-LOKOJA accepts In addition to meeting the UTME Entry Requirements; Two (2) 'A' Level passes in History/Government and any other related subject; IJMB minimum of 8 points with passes in relevant subjects; NCE not below the equivalent of upper credit in History or Government/Political Science or Social Studies as major and any other Arts or Social Science subject. ND upper credit in any related programme from Accredited Tertiary Institutions; HND lower credit in relevant programmes from Accredited Tertiary Institutions; Degree (Third Class) relevant to the programme.

(27) FED-LAFIA accepts In addition to UTME requirements, DE candidate must have any of the following: IJMB: Candidates should have at least 9 points in subjects relevant to Sociology. NCE: Candidates should at least have Merit pass in a Course that is relevant to Sociology. ND: should not be less than Lower Credit pass in a course that is relevant to Sociology. (xxx) LANDMARK accepts Two (2) A Level passes including Government or History.

(28) RSUST accepts Admissions into Year III; Degree relevant to the Programme. HND (Upper Credit) relevant to the Programme. Admissions into Year II; HND (Lower Credit) relevant to the Programme. OND/ND (Upper Credit) relevant to the Programme. Degree (Third Class) relevant to the programme. In addition, all such candidates above must also satisfy the UME entry requirements.

(29) SSU accepts NCE or Diploma in a relevant course with a minimum of Lower Credit.
