- Abu Bakr consulted with Umar bin Khattab, and they decided to compile the Quran into a written book. -Zayd bin Thabit, who was a skilled writer and had previously written down revelations for the Prophet Muhammad, was tasked with compiling the Quran.
- Zayd gathered the written fragments of the Quran, verified them with the companions who had memorized the Quran, and compiled them into a single book.
Later, during the caliphate of Uthman bin Affan (d), the Quran was recompiled and standardized to ensure that there was only one official version of the Quran. This is why Uthman bin Affan is sometimes credited with compiling the Quran, but it was actually Zayd bin Thabit who did the initial compilation.
