A state is defined as a politically organised community that possesses sovereignty (political independence) over a specific territory and population.
For a "politically independent nation" to be classified as a state, it generally must possess four essential elements:
Population: A permanent group of people residing within its borders.
Territory: A clearly defined geographical area with recognised boundaries.
Government: An organised political machinery through which the state’s will is formulated and expressed.
Sovereignty: The supreme authority to make and enforce laws without interference from any external power.
