The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) was officially adopted by African Heads of State and Government in July 2001 during a summit in Lusaka, Zambia. It was formed through the merger of two existing plans: the Millennium Partnership for Africa's Recovery Programme (MAP) and the OMEGA Plan.
