One of the fundamental necessities in an electoral process is a free and fair election. An election should be free and fair in the sense that political parties should be allowed to contest without prejudice and citizens should be allowed to vote the leaders of their choice without undue coercion. The freedom of the press is also essential. They should be allowed to inform the public about the happenings during the election without undue censorship. The Electoral Commission should also work independently of the government to ensure a free and fair election.
