The defence pact between Nigeria and Britain, known as the Anglo-Nigerian Defense Pact, was indeed cancelled in 1962. This agreement, signed in 1960 shortly after Nigeria gained independence from Britain, allowed British military presence and assistance in Nigeria. However, Nigeria sought to assert its sovereignty more fully, leading to negotiations in 1962 that resulted in the cancellation of the pact. This move was part of Nigeria's broader efforts to establish its independence and autonomy in foreign and defence policies following decolonization.
