Major features of Nigeria's Foreign Policy since independence include:
(i)The adoption of non-aligned policies with the power blocs - East or West.
(ii) The belief in resolving inter-state disputes peaceably.
(iii) Cooperating and entering into friendship with nations that respect her sovereignty
(iv) The belief in the principle of non-interference in the domestic affairs of other states and according respect to the territorial integrity of other states in Africa.
(v) Seeing Africa as the centre- piece of Nigeria's foreign policy.
(vi) To join forces in exterminating apartheid in South Africa and Colonialism in the African continent by supporting liberation movements.
(vii) To be involved in cooperation with other states in finding peaceful resolution to mounting political crises in the West African sub-region by taking part in the formation of ECOMOG which played a role in the Liberian Crisis.
