(a)Causes of the 1953 Kano riot in Nigeria are:
(i) The 1953 motion for self-government in 1956 brought a disagreement and a strained relationship between the Northern and Southern political leaders.
(ii) This disagreement and strained relationship led to the booing and jeering of Northern leaders in the parliament.
(iii) The Northerners decided to retaliate the booing and jeering of their leaders in Lagos.
(iv) The Action Group (AG) led by Chief S.L Akintola toured the Northern Region, aimed at campaigning for self-government for Nigeria.
(v) It was the presence of this group in Kano that sparked off the riot of 1953.
(b) Political implications of the 1953 Kano Riot in Nigeria:
(i)The relationship existing between the Southern and Northern political leaders got worsened.
(ii) The outcome of this riot showed that it is only a federal structure which allows for the autonomy of the regions that can work and hold a country like Nigeria together.
(iii) The London Constitutional Conference of 1953 was constituted as a result of the riot. The 1954 constitution and the government that came up was as a result of this arrangement.
(iv) One of the implications of the 1953 Kano riot was the coming together of NCNC and A.G . A temporary working alliance ensured between them.
