The rights of the individual can be restricted under the following circumstances:
(i) Imprisonment: if an individual is convicted by a court of law and imprisoned, his rights can be restricted.
(ii) State of emergency: If there is a state of emergency in a country, e.g natural disasters like flood, earth quake or during war time, restriction of individual rights may result.
(iii) Epidemic: There may be restriction also if there is an outbreak of epidemic in the society, e.g small-pox, cholera, yellow fever, etc.
(iv) Remanded in the custody: The determination of the cases of an individual may be pending and the court may order him to be remanded in custody. This is a restriction on his rights.
(v) Arrest of the individual: If an individual is arrested by the law enforcement agents and is awaiting appearance in court, such is a restriction on his rights.
(vi) National security: An individual may be detained in the interest of national security.
(vii) Unsound mind: some people of unsound mind may be detained or incarcerated.
(viii) Type of government: The provisions of the constitution are not respected and adhered to by any of the Military or one party system.
(ix) Death sentence: The conviction of an individual may result in his facing firing squad or by hanging.
(x) Children: Children in need of care and protection may be detained and this is a restriction on their rights
