Explanation

Features of the 1979 republican constitution:                                                                                                                                                                (a) (i) It introduced a presidential system of government.

(ii) The president was elected with the vice president by the whole nation.

(iii) The Constitution was the supreme law cr the land.

(iv) Bicameral legislature was introduced and it was made up of House of Representatives and the Senate.

(v) Unicameral legislatures operated in the states.

(vi) The principle of Separation of powers and checks and balances was enshrined in the constitution.

(vii) The method of amendment of the constitution was rigid.

(viii) It made provisions for the entrenchment of fundamental human rights.

(ix) The constitution explicitly address itself to political parties, their functions and administrations.

(x) The Constitution listed the local government areas and their functions.

(xi) The Chief Justice, Supreme Court judges and High Court judges were appointed IT, the President with the approval of the Senate.

(xii) The President and the Governors were to hold office for a fixed term of four years up to a maximum of two tenures.

(xiii) It provided for the acquisition of citizenship. 

Two ways by which the President could be removed from office according to the constitution.                                                                              (i) By impeachment: The President could be removed from office if the motion of impeachment is duly passed by the two houses an: supported by two-thirds majority of the two houses.

(ii) Permanent incapacity of President: The President may cease to be the Head of State if the two-thirds majority of executive support his medical report of incapability to discharge his responsibilities.

(iii) By death.
