Nnamdi Azikiwe only exercised the role of A governor general appointed by the British monarch which was the queen Elizabeth II.He only acted as the head of state and wasn't mandated by the people. It was until 1963 when Nigeria became a republic that the parliamentary system was abolished and the remnant link between Nigeria and British was severed. So that was when the President exercised both head of state and government role and functions. So 1979 marked the beginning of a representative Democratic elected system of government.
