The 1960 Independence Constitution of Nigeria marked a significant step towards self-governance. However, one major weakness of this constitution was that it was largely drafted by the British colonial authorities with limited input from Nigerians. Although some Nigerian leaders participated in constitutional conferences (like the London and Lagos Conferences), the final version of the constitution reflected British political ideals and interests more than indigenous values or systems.
Thus, it was said to be not completely home-made, meaning it lacked full Nigerian authorship and ownership.
