Military regimes typically suspend or abolish constitutional provisions related to the legislative and executive branches of government because they seize power by force and do not operate under a democratic system. Instead of an elected legislature and civilian executive, military rulers govern by decrees and dissolve the national assembly. The judiciary might still be retained but they function under the dictates of the military leaders.
