Nationalism in Nigeria developed in response to colonial injustices, including discrimination in employment, tampering with Nigerian culture, denial of certain facilities to Nigerians and the control of the Nigerian economy by foreigners. However, the idea that "key decisions were made by the Nigerians for the Europeans to carry out" is not one of the causes of nationalism in Nigeria. Instead, colonial powers made decisions with little or no input from Nigerians, which further fueled the desire for self-determination and independence.
