Which of the leaders rejected charles de Gaulle's Constitutional proposals in 1958?
In 1958, Charles de Gaulle proposed a new French Community Constitution, which allowed African colonies to choose between remaining in a federation with France or gaining immediate independence. Sékou Touré, the leader of Guinea, was the only leader who rejected De Gaulle’s proposal, choosing immediate independence. Guinea voted "No" in the referendum, leading to its independence from France on 2nd October 1958. In response, France withdrew all aid and dismantled infrastructure, leaving Guinea to struggle initially.
