Which constitution was created to legislate for the Lagos Colony and the Southern Provinces?
The Clifford Constitution (1922) was introduced in colonial Nigeria to provide limited legislative representation for the Lagos Colony and the Southern Provinces. It aimed to increase African participation in government but was criticised for favouring the South over the North. This constitution preceded the Richards Constitution (1946) and the Macpherson Constitution (1951), and it focused on Southern Nigeria specifically, unlike later constitutions which included the North more fully.
