The Commonwealth of Nations is a political association of mostly former territories of the British Empire. While it operates by consensus and does not have a constitutionally binding leadership structure, it recognises a symbolic head of the Commonwealth.
The Head of the Commonwealth is a ceremonial position, not a political or executive one.
This role was traditionally held by Queen Elizabeth II, and now by King Charles III, following her passing.
It is not automatically passed through British monarchy by law, but was reaffirmed by member states.
