The Nigerian Youth Movement (NYM), founded in 1934, is considered the first political party in Nigeria. Although not a formal political party in the modern sense, it was the first significant political organisation in Nigeria, advocating for political reforms and African rights under colonial rule.
The NYM played a key role in mobilising educated Nigerians to demand greater representation and participation in the political process, eventually influencing the formation of later political parties.
