The National Congress of British West Africa (NCBWA) was formed in 1919 as one of the earliest nationalist movements in British West Africa (covering Nigeria, Gold Coast, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia). It was led by Joseph Casely Hayford, a prominent Gold Coast (now Ghana) nationalist, lawyer and journalist.
