The Clifford Constitution of 1922 was Nigeria's first formal constitution. It introduced limited self-governance by establishing a Legislative Council with a mix of elected and appointed members, but it was still under British colonial control. It did not grant full independence or significant self-rule, which came later with the Independence Constitution in 1960.
