The major aim of colonial rule in Nigeria (and across Africa) was economic exploitation. After the Industrial Revolution in Europe, European nations needed:
Cheap raw materials (like palm oil, cotton, groundnuts, and cocoa) to feed their industries.
Ready markets to sell their manufactured goods.
Other reasons, such as spreading Christianity (A), stopping the slave trade (B), or promoting peace (D) were secondary or moral justifications used to make colonial rule appear benevolent.
The real motive was economic gain i.e. to enrich European powers at the expense of African resources and labour.
