Describe chemically formed sedimentary rocks under the following headings;
(a) mode of formation (b) examples (c) importance.
(a) Materials for formation may be from streams, glaciers, wind:- accumulation of materials derived from other rocks - accumulation over a long period of time - formed through chemical precipitation rocks - hardening of cemented rocks - accumulation laid down in layers/strata over time - variations in thickness of strata.
(b) Sodium chloride (common salt) - limonite - nitrates - gypsum/hydrated calcium sulphate - dolomite - flint - potash - borax - alabasta.
(c) Source of minerals e.g limonite, gypsum and potash - construction materials e.g limestone - ornaments - tourist attraction e.g stalactites and stalagmites in caves - fertilesoil formation e.g potash, nitrate - raw materials for industries e.g gypsum, dolomite, borax - for food e.g rocksalt - medicinal e.g kaolin.
