Explanation

(a) ldentification of Specimens;

  • L - urea,
  • N - lime / quicklime / slaked lime,
  • Q - wood ash.

(b) Agricultural uses of specimen N (Lime):

  • Lime is used in the soil to correct soil acidity.
  • It helps to supply calcium for root development.
  • It can be used to lime fish ponds to correct water acidity.
  • It can be used in improving clay soil structure.
  • It brings about flocculation of fine clay particles in fish ponds as well as reducing turbidity of ponds.
  • It improves the growth of soil microbes and also renders more available the nutrients locked in clay soils.

Agricultural uses of specimen a (Wood ash)

  • is used for correcting soil acidity.
  • It is also a good natural pesticide for controlling insect pests of seedlings and vegetables;
  • it provides potassium for plant growth and a good component of compost; lime increases grown of phytoplankton in fish ponds and can be used to correct acidity in fish ponds.

(c) Crops that requires Specimen L (Urea) are as follows:

  • Maize;
  • Millet;
  • Rice;
  • Guinea corn;
  • Wheat:
  • Leafy vegetables.

Crops that requires Specimen N

  • groundnut:
  • pigeon peas;
  • cowpea,
  • soyabeans;
  • bambará groundnut.

Crops that requires Specimen Q (Wood ash) are as follows:

  • cassava,
  • cocoyams
  • sweet potato;
  • Irish potato;
  • yams;
  • carrots.

Methods of applying specimen L(Urea) to the soil are as follows:-

  • Urea can be applied through ploughing into the soil using a plough, and it can be done through drilling into the soil using a plough.
  • Ring method and covering can be used as a way of applying urea to the soil;
  • Also, side dressing and covering methods can also be used.;
  • Broadcast method can equally be applied.
