I scored 181 in JAMB and I want to study microbiology in NSUK. I'm not an indigene. Is it possible? I actually put NSUK as my second choice and I'm planning on changing to my first choice because my first choice was FULafia, Medical laboratory science but from what I searched I didn't score up to the cut off mark . please I need advice?

Yes, it is entirely possible for you to get admission to study Microbiology at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) with a JAMB score of 181, but you must take action immediately to make it happen.
1. Cut-off Mark Compatibility
The general JAMB cut-off mark for Microbiology at NSUK is 170. Since you scored 181, you have cleared the baseline requirement. Your score gives you a very competitive edge for this specific department.
2. The Catch: Second Choice Policy
NSUK does not accept second-choice candidates for its Post-UTME screening. If you leave NSUK as your second choice, your name will not even appear on their portal, and you will be completely disqualified from applying for their screening form.
What you must do: You need to visit an accredited JAMB CBT centre as soon as possible and apply for a Change of Institution. Move NSUK to your 1st choice position.
3. The Non-Indigene Factor
Being a non-indigene does not stop you from getting admission, but it does mean you have to work within the catchments and open merit quotas. Because state universities heavily favor indigenes, your 181 is a safe cushion, but you cannot rely on your UTME score alone. You will need to maximize your total screening score by ensuring your O'Level grades are very strong (A1, B2, B3, etc., in core science subjects) because NSUK aggregates UTME and O'Level results for online screening.
Step-by-Step Action Plan
Step 1: Change Institution on JAMB CAPS
Go to a CBT centre, pay the standard JAMB fee, and change your 1st choice from FULafia to NSUK (Microbiology).
Step 2: Ensure O'Level Upload
While at the CBT centre, double-check that your O'Level results (WAEC/NECO) are fully uploaded to your JAMB profile. Without this, NSUK cannot process your admission on CAPS.
Step 3: Monitor the NSUK Post-UTME Portal
Once the NSUK Post-UTME registration opens, log in to register. Note that NSUK typically conducts an online screening (evaluation of JAMB + O’level) rather than a physical exam, so precision during registration is key.
Switching from Medical Laboratory Science at FULafia is a smart strategic move since your score didn't meet their highly competitive cut-off. Moving to Microbiology at NSUK keeps you firmly in the medical/biological sciences track with a much higher probability of securing admission.
