Acid
A substance that releases H⁺ ions (protons) in water.
Example: HCl → hydrochloric acid
Base
A substance that accepts H⁺ ions or releases OH⁻ ions in water.
Example: NaOH → sodium hydroxide
Salt
A substance formed when an acid reacts with a base, usually by neutralization, producing a cation from the base and an anion from the acid.
Example: HCl + NaOH → NaCl + H₂O
